We Are The World remake

Celebrities re-record hit song 25 years later

The classic "We Are The World" single is back. To mark the 25th anniversary of the song, Lionel Richie, who wrote the tune with Michael Jackson, headed up the new version with the track's original producer Quincy Jones on Monday night (February 1st) in Los Angeles.

"We Are The World -- 25 For Haiti" will premiere this month during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics on NBC. Proceeds from the single sales will go to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. In an effort to create a fresh version of the track, none of the artists from the 1985 single were at the sessions. But the recording did take place at the Hollywood studio where the original was laid down.

'WE ARE THE WORLD -- 25 FOR HAITI' ARTISTS

According to MTV.com, the 2010 version will be headlined by Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Wyclef Jean, Josh Groban and Will.i.Am. It features a hip hop break written by Will.i.Am that honors the victims of the January 12th earthquake in Haiti.

The artists heard on the single include: Miley Cyrus, Keri Hilson, Zac Brown, Joel and Benji Madden, Akon, Brandy, Melanie Fiona, Mya, Musiq Soulchild, Katharine McPhee, Trey Songz, Faith Evans, Heroes actor Jimmy Jean-Louis and former Michael Jackson guitarist Orianthi.

Also on hand were Sugarland, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Mraz, India.Arie, Mary Mary, Tyrese Gibson, Raphael Saadiq, Pink, Jordin Sparks, Rob Thomas, Usher, the Fray's Isaac Slade, Enrique Iglesias, Robin Thicke, Jamie Foxx, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, the Jonas Brothers, Nicole Scherzinger and Julianne Hough.

Some of the more classic artists taking part are Barbra Streisand, Carlos Santana, Natalie Cole, Bebe Winans, the members of Heart, Freda Payne, Harry Connick Jr., Earth, Wind & Fire, the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and Al Jardine, Tony Bennett, Slumdog Millionaire film score composer A.R. Rahman, American Idol judge Randy Jackson, Patti Austin, Celine Dion and Gladys Knight.

Among the hip hop artists on the track are T-Pain, Kanye West, Bizzy Bone, Kid Cudi, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Drake, Mann, Nipsey Hussle, Busta Rhymes and Swizz Beatz.

There were a few actors in the studio, including Crazy Heart star Jeff Bridges and Vince Vaughn, as well as Lionel Richie's daughter Nicole Richie and Quincy Jones' daughter Rashida Jones. Tito Jackson's three sons -- known as 3T -- were also there.
Janet Jackson was expected to lay down her version of Michael Jackson's part on Tuesday (February 2nd), and there's a chance that other artists could come through some time this week to pitch in.
Michael Jackson's previously recorded voice will be heard in the remake as well.
The original recording session, which took place on January 28, 1985, featured 46 pop and rock stars, including Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder and Willie Nelson, among others.
There are rumors that some music artists declined to particpate because the original song had been altered.
