HELP HAITI

On January 12th, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, collapsing buildings and affecting thousands. It was the strongest earthquake ever to hit the region.

Laurier Optical is a locally owned optical company taht is becoming involved in the relief effor for Haiti. They are committing 1 million dollars in eye wear and eye care for this project. You can help too - donate your old glasses at ay one of their 11 locations in Ottawa. These glasses will be refurbished and new prespriction lenses put in.

 

Canadians have been exceptionally generous but we are asking for a bit more.  God’s Littlest Angles, a non-denominational Christian charity that operates an orphanage does in Haiti, was one of the first organizations to provide material support and relief to the Haitian people after the earthquake.  We have built and maintain a relief distribution system supplying necessary materials to hard to reach rural communities.  What we need now are supplies to distribute. 

During the month of March we will be collecting enough material to fill a 40-foot long shipping container’s for distribution to those in the greatest need.  We need lots of stuff; we need medicines and medical supplies, baby supplies, non-perishable food, camping equipment, especially tents and/or tarps, towels, sheets, even soap and band-aids, but please no clothing.  (A full list is attached)

Volunteers will pick up material from collection points, consolidate it and with the help of Canpar get it into a shipping container bound for Haiti.  The container leaves Ottawa at the end of March so over the next 4 weeks please drop off a few items in our boxes.
